Set up Okta Verify for Passwordless Login

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to set up Okta Verify for passwordless login.

Tip: To complete the steps below, you'll need to be at a computer and have your mobile device on hand, such as an Apple iPhone, iPad, or Android smartphone or tablet.

1. Go to myid.sva.edu and enter your username and click "Next"

2. Enter your password and click "Verify"

3. Click "Set up" under Okta Verify

4. You will be prompted to download the Okta Verify app on your mobile device

Tip: The steps below take place on your mobile device

5. Open the Okta Verify app on your mobile device and tap " Add account"

6. Tap "Organization"

7. Tap "Skip" (unless you are adding your account on an additional mobile device)

8. Tap "Yes, ready to scan" and scan the QR code on your computer screen

9. Scan the QR code displayed on your computer with your mobile device

Note: When prompted, enable biometric authentication. This completes the Okta Verify Fastpass setup process for passwordless authentication.

Configure additional factors

10. If you have not already done so in the past, you will be prompted to configure your mobile phone number as an authentication factor, tap "Set up" under Phone

11. After entering your mobile number, enter the code that is texted to your phone and tap "Verify"

Tip: It's highly encouraged that you also set up Google Authenticator as an alternate backup form of multi-factor authentication on your account.

12. Tap "Set up" under Google Authenticator

Tip: If you don't have a Secondary email set in the system, adding one will make account recovery and password resets much easier.

13. Enter your Secondary email address and tap "Finish"

Review the updated authentication experience

14. At myid.sva.edu enter your Username

15. Click "Select" next to 'Get a push notification' to receive the push verification via Okta Verify on your mobile device

Tip: Okta Verify is similar to other authentication apps such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Duo Mobile, LastPass Authenticator, and others you may already be using.
